How do we use language understand one another?
I’m a behavioral scientist and statistician with seven years of experience researching this question. In that time, I’ve built an analytic pipeline that transcribed and analyzed 20 years of video-recorded conversations to identify the best cues for understanding what someone is thinking; I examined emotional and semantic drift in ~8 million Tweets discussing ‘cancel culture’ on social media, building comprehensive timelines of how outrage builds and dissipates over time; and I used survey data to understand how students’ feelings of belonging impact how they interpret ambiguous academic feedback
